UC Davis welcomed its fifth class of 19 Energy Graduate Group students. During their first week on campus, students participated in a PowerTrip orientation program to learn about the wide variety of energy-related research and policy work being conducted at UC Davis and in the Sacramento/Bay area through discussions with researchers and leaders from industry, government, public interest groups, and academia. Engaging Students with Hands-On Citizen Science
Schools are facing many challenges this fall, including minimizing risks to students and staff from Covid-19 and wildfire smoke exposure. Air purifiers are one tool that can help. Researchers from the Energy and Efficiency Institute partnered with science teachers at Rio Tierra Junior High School in Sacramento to teach a two-day lesson on air quality and build 30 portable air cleaners with approximately 150 8th grade students. The Energy and Efficiency Institute launched a new website for its Market Transformation Research Program. This program aims to identify the barriers and opportunities for clean technology by considering the economic, technical, and policy landscape, as well as relevant behavioral factors that influence stakeholder adoption. EGG Students Featured in Climate Justice Mini-Series
Estudio Plumbago released a new mini-series that explores different perspectives on climate justice. The August 30th episode features several UC Davis Energy Graduate Group students as they discuss natural gas. The series was made with support from UC Davis’ Green Initiative Fund. WCEC Completed HVAC Air-Trap Testing Report
The Western Cooling Efficiency Center conducted laboratory testing of the Des Champs Technologies HVAC Air-Trap technology to measure its air leakage performance and assess its suitability as a replacement for standard p-traps. Researchers found that the HVAC Air-Trap is an excellent alternative to a standard p-trap that will reduce air leakage in a dry condensate drain line to a negligible amount. [Read the report]
