Study Shows Large-Scale Solar Can Cool Nearby Areas

Using satellite imagery and field-based measurements, scientists from UC Davis, Lancaster University, and Ludong University published research showing that utility-scale solar facilities can have a cooling effect not only on the land covered by the arrays, but also on the surrounding area. Solar facilities were found to produce “cool islands” that extend up to 730 meters from the boundaries of the arrays with land surface temperatures reduced by up to 2.3 degrees Celsius. Researcher Receives Energy Efficiency Award

Theresa Pistochini, Co-Director of Engineering for the Western Cooling Efficiency Center, was recognized by the Western States Council Sheet Metal Worker’s International Association with the HVAC Industry Energy Efficiency Hero award. Theresa received the award alongside State Assembly Member Phil Ting who was recognized as Legislator of the Year. Congratulations!
