Michael R. Peevey retired from the California Public Utilities Commission, where he served as President, at the end of his term in December, 2014. He published a book in 2017 entitled, “California Goes Green: A Roadmap to Climate Leadership.” Peevey was appointed President of the Commission by Gov. Gray Davis in 2002.
From 1995 until 2000, he served as President of NewEnergy, Inc. Earlier, Peevey was President of Edison International and Southern California Edison. He has served on many boards and has received numerous awards recognizing his leadership in developing energy policy and promoting recognition of California’s diverse population. He has received leadership recognition from the American Council for Energy Efficiency (2005), the Utility Minority Access Program (2006) and the California Solar Energy Industries Association (2006).
He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in economics from the University of California, Berkeley. An oral history of Peevey was recently completed and is available here.
