Have you ever wondered how our buildings are heated and cooled? Did you know our campus has managed to grow in size while shrinking its energy use? Do you wonder how campus plans to slash its carbon emissions? Nico Fauchier-Magnan works in UCD Facilities Management : Energy Engineering and will answer these questions (and more) in an overview of our campus energy systems, and how they contribute to our sustainability. You will learn that the campus is a mini-city with its own electrical grid, water system, central heating & cooling plant, and solar farm; you will hear about how our buildings use energy, and what we’ve done to improve their efficiency; and you’ll get a peek into BigShift – the campus’ plans to electrify its district heating system.
Nico Fauchier-Magnan has been working in the energy efficiency field for twenty years. He started his career in energy efficiency consulting in Oakland and Switzerland and has been leading the Energy Engineering team at UC Davis since 2017. His team focuses on reducing the campus energy and carbon footprint by optimizing HVAC systems, while improving comfort and reducing maintenance across campus buildings. He has a MS degree in Environmental Engineering and is a licensed Mechanical Engineer.
