Energy Bites April 2, 2026

April 2, 2026 | 12PM-1PM | EEI Conference Room and Zoom

Join us Thursday, April 2 at EEI for the first Energy Bites lunch seminar of the spring quarter, featuring new research on an emerging technology that could help accelerate home electrification.

Enabling Decarbonization of Existing Homes with Air-to-Air Multi-Function Heat Pumps
Subhrajit Chakraborty

Air-to-Air Multi-Function Heat Pumps combine space conditioning and domestic hot water production in a single system. This integrated approach could make it far easier to electrify the millions of centrally ducted homes across the United States. By delivering multiple services through one piece of equipment, these systems may reduce installation barriers while improving efficiency and operational flexibility.

This talk will explore how multi-function heat pumps could help unlock faster residential decarbonization by simplifying retrofits and improving how homes interact with the electric grid. The research highlights the promise of integrated thermal systems and advanced controls as part of the next generation of home energy technologies.

Subhrajit Chakraborty is a thermal systems engineer specializing in HVAC innovation, heat pump technologies, and advanced energy system modeling. His work has focused on developing and testing new approaches to space conditioning, water heating, and load-flexible energy systems.

Lunch will be provided for in-person attendees. Please register in advance so we have an accurate headcount.

We look forward to seeing you!
